You Can Caftan

Untitled-1

Obsessed, people. That’s how I feel about caftans right now. How better to dress for summer?? It’s comfy and chic all at the same time. And we CANNOT say that about our skinny jeans no matter how tried and true. There’s something luxe about throwing on a huge swath of silken fabric, layering some fab necklaces and calling it a day. It evokes poolside parties for me or some fabulous woman entertaining her guests.

I decided to make a couple (of course I did). I had this fabulous Mar Jacobs fabric lying around that I had bought eons ago and never knew what to do with. It’s a cafe au lait chiffon with these purple and gold streaks running through it.. Gorg! Sorry for the blurriness, we were in a hurry.

I also had purchased a lovely white silk charmeuse.. I forgot how slippery that stuff was to work with! I used the wrong side of the fabric as my face though because I wanted it to be ok for daytime and not too shiny.. Plus who doesn’t love the feeling of silky charmeuse against their skin! While I guess technically this isn’t a caftan per se, it had the same aesthetic to me..

I also found this great vintage dress pattern online and can;t wait to execute it. Just trying to find the perfect fabric for it now!

Bang up Job

Bangs.. I have always had a love/hate relationship with them..Every time I cut them I remind my friends to never let me do it again. I think i realized why…  I have been struggling with blowing them, ironing them and otherwise figuring out ways to get them to lay flat, obey! obey! I have seen the light.. Work with what god gave you.. I’m going wavy from here on in… Takin’ a lesson from my girls below.

hair

I started with my hair pretty straight from the day before.

Now I would normally have made my own surf spray but since I have these great new extensions I am under strict instructions to not let my hair touch saltwater. Ever. So, armed with a spray bottle of good ol’ NY tap and some smoothing serum I went to town.  Basically I sprayed allover with a fine mist until damp, let it dry completely, brushed it through and then put the smoothing serum in. Worked out pretty well.. Pics below.
